Well, "summing" a list of strings with '+' would be O(N^2), so I'm not sure I'd want to encourage that...
That said, I'm not sure if this was something we even considered. Glancing through the library, it looks like "sum" and "sumBy" are the only functions that use only GenericZero and (+) and thus that "string" could potentially leverage, so it's not a very big deal one way or the other.

I was wondering what the design reason behind the lack of get_Zero for strings was.
Having get_Zero = "" would allow for example to use List.sum to concatenate strings.
