for a brief description. I think maybe there were grammar ambiguities in the other forms.
Lots of info about why things were changed there, but unfortunately nothing except "some forms of syntax have been deprecated or removed in favor of a more consistent and regular subset of the syntax" in the section about list comprehensions. (Maybe I should start calling them 'sequence expressions', but Haskell habits die hard ...)
