i need to match over a value of type System.Type. the best way i've found thus far is to explicilty write out an active pattern that'll do the match for me, and then feed it. the feeding is the worst part - you can't actually supply an inline type literal through typeof<_>. the only way that seems to work is to define a value beforehand that holds the literal, and test against that:

let foo_type = typeof<Foo>

let (|MatchType|_|) t p = ...

let target = (new Foo()).GetType()

match target with
| MatchType foo_type t -> printf "found it"
| _ -> printf "not found"

is there a better way?
