Well, this isn't too specific, but I'd just try re-installing or repairing the F# install. If that doesn't work, you might try the same for the entire VS2008 install.

I think the "error list" problem is a known issue -- sometimes things don't show up (but it does usually work).

You should provide full details of your environment: OS version (and language), VS version (patches, language, etc.) and any other VS addins installed. You can email fsbugs @ microsoft.com to file a bug report.

I've already re-installed the F# CTP.

error list: yes, I'd heard of that, but apparently as you said it usually works. For me it _never_ works, which is why I mentioned it.

I might try reinstalling VS2008, though I'm a bit wary of that given my inexperience with things MS and the fact that this is for work, not play. (in theory at least)

I'll wait to see if someone can figure out what I did wrong and otherwise will indeed file a bug report.

Thanks,

FWIW, this is ``Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, Version 9.0.21022.8 RTM'', on windows XP, with a bunch of ``installed products'' that look ``standard'' (C#, C++,VB, TFS stuff, etc).

Only now I notice ``Microsoft Visual F# 1.0'', among the packages, which looks slightly weird. Is it supposed to show in this way rather than 1.9.6.2?

You might also try upgrading to VS 2008 SP1 which is a pretty big fix/upgrade in general. (I do that first, then install F# on the work machines I use.)

Thanks Michael, that did it!

I didn't even need to reinstall F#.

(perhaps the CTP installer should complain a bit if the service pack isn't installed?)

Wierd. I don't think that it breaks in general without the SP. Well, at any rate, I'm sure this is a really outdated problem compared to the current code (whenever it's released :)). Glad to hear it works!

(also can one tell the F# interactive window not to output the complete path of the file being edited before the warnings..?)
