I’m using VS2008 and have a file “sample_text.txt” in the same folder as my current script,

I enter the following code into the script, then send it to fsi...

open System.IO

let filename = "sample_text.txt"

let stream = File.OpenRead (filename)

When I enter it to FSharp Interactive (fsi) I get the following error…

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\sample_text.txt'.

And when I check the current directory I get...

> System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory();;
val it : string
= "c:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\\Common7\\IDE"

I fix it by entering…

Directory.SetCurrentDirectory(__SOURCE_DIRECTORY__)

Then my file "sample_text.txt" reads OK.

But what puzzles me is why I have to do this. I would have expected the current working directory to default to the location of the scripts (ie. __SOURCE_DIRECTORY__). Is there something wrong with my setup, or my understanding, or is this just “the way things are”?
