I inspected event logs.

While the msi installer for f# was running I got these two messages:

Detection of product '{0462F21C-5C36-4494-B00F-302FEA0B88E2}', feature 'GACFilesFeature2' failed during request for component '{F1E92F64-5D8F-4296-2CA5-BAA022D6BA5E}'

Hi Mike.

Since 1.9.6.0 the Visual Studio FSI integration is a package and not an AddIn. So Visual Studio should not even find a "vf.Addin" file, but it seems to be. It must be in one of the load paths under "Tools > Options... > AddIn/Macros". Perhaps from a previous installation.

Have you uninstalled the previous version of F#? To upgrade, please uninstall before installing the new version.

To activate 1.9.6.2 FSI in Visual Studio either:

a) View > Other Windows... > F# Interactive, or

b) CTRL-ALT-F

Oh yes this was a complete utter and total uninstall (as far as I can tell, done via add remove programs) followed by a reboot.

There's several other warnings in the event log when the installer runs. Including (if I recall correctly) something like 7 or more missing xsl's detected.

Thanks for the details on getting it running. (I probably saw that somewhere but certainly didn't remember it, not helped by it appearing in the Add-In list.)

I tried FSI. Got two problems:

1) The window was unreadable. White text on pale grey.

2) FSI gave a "Unhandled Exception: Microsoft.FSharp.Core.FailureException", which I have reported to the fsbugs email address.

Looks like I'm all out of f# until a later release.
