Yep, I think it would be nice place to start playing with F#. I would start by doing a synchronous version, which would look similar to what you'd implement in C# but perhaps using F# modules instead of classes. Then I'd implement a version using workflows to do all the I/O asynchronously. In theory you should see quite gain in though put. I would be very interested in hearing about a comparison of the two versions.
