I have a question regarding hiding the data structure of a type in the signature file.

One can use

type foo

to hide

type foo = {a : int ; b: int }

.

However, it is impossible to hide

  { a : int 
    b : int 
  } 


  with 


    member x.test () = ()

with

type foo = member test:unit -> unit

because the

record type (or the sum type etc.) is sealed.

Does using

  { private a : int 


    private b: int 


  } 


  with 


    member test : unit -> unit

have the exact

same meaning (except that it's still readable for someone browsing the

source file)? If so, is it possible to hide something like

type Foo = F of int with...

?

Is there another way to do it? The purpose is to

implement operators for the given data structures, hence the need to

make their static member public.
