I would recommend ignoring Visual Studio for the time being, and working through this OCaml introduction in F# Interactive:

I found it pretty helpful.

After that, the Expert F# book has been a godsend, although it's a bit expensive (especially compared to "free").

Currently everything is being turned into a product. The language is still being polished as well.

If you go to the homepage of this website you will find a link in the list that will point you to where you need to go:

Because F# is so relatively new there is not a whole lot of information on it out there yet (as compared to VB or C#, for example) but there are some tutorials here and there that are free. You should explore this website to find more links.

Lastly, you might consider buying one or both of the two currently available F# books out there.
