Good observation. Yes, this is an optimization: the .NET JIT tends to work more efficiently and optimize code more effectively on smaller methods, and in JIT (rather than NGEN) scenarios startup times can be improved.

As far as we know F# itself has no substantive non-linearities (or at least O(n log(n))) though we don't mega-stress in every way imaginable.
