Source Control for projects

Source control has been setup with

subversion. Feel free to start using it anytime. Please post any questions in this forum.

Layout
Within each project there is a trunk and branches folder. When working on the active branch please

checkout from trunk.

Example:

Logins have been created for most Hub members. They are the same username as your hubFS

account except all lower case and no spaces.

The password is the super secure “thehubfs”.

Pending Issues
Allowing users to change their login password.

There are changes being made for use of the source repositories. The plan is as follows:

  1. Swarer is making changes to The Hub repositories one last time before go live.
  2. The new base address will be [link:source.hubfs.net].
  3. He'll let everyone know when the reorganization is completed.
  4. Within that source tree address, the default will be for private, password-protected projects.
  5. The ability to have public read-only or public read/write projects will also be available on an as-needed/as-requested basis to manage the recent needs of potential new hubFS groups.
  6. Let Swarer or optionsScalper know if you need access as userIDs/passwords are managed on an as-requested basis. Access is not restricted, but this policy is rather a practical approach for access, i.e. those that need access will have access granted, rather than providing access to every hubFS member by default.

Also note, we will be using the hubFS Inbox facility now for these communications so that userID/password pairs are not sent out via unencrypted email. If you make your requests to swarer or I through email, we will respond in your hubFS inbox and send you an email address with your inbox link. Note that your inbox is available to you in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Is "ankhsvn" stable? I noticed it doesn't seem to have any version listed as the release version.

Hi Robert,

I haven't had much luck with Ankh. I'm not aware of a stable release of Ankh.

There are issues with Ankh and F# projects (at least as of 1.1.9.x of F#). When I asked for advice from the Ankh team, I was essentially told "That F# is an experimental language and any problems are likely on their end". In particular, I could not load and save F# projects directly in VS2005 with Ankh.

There likely is an issue that I could raise with the F# team and I did mention this in an fsbugs entry, but it is likely low priority and given the Ankh team posture (at least from my interaction with them), I'd think it wouldn't be very fulfulling. Hopefully I'm cynical and the situation is not this bad. Essentially, the F# project "format" or something similar doesn't support some VS Automation standard. Again, I don't have all of the facts and quite honestly, I'd have to re-open the issue to pursue it.

Anyways, at the moment, I've used TortoiseSVN with no issues on those repositories (and elsewhere within my work).

If you want to use The Hub repositories, give Swarer an email (separate security system; different credentials not granted by default). He has offered the servers, free of charge for hubFS usage. If you want to start a project, let him know as well, and he can set up a specific svn location as needed.

Those are subversion addresses, i.e. they don't provide an html page.

In order to use the repositories from a windows desktop, you must use TortoiseSVN.

In order to use the repositories from VS2005 directly, you must use AnkhSVN (and note the I'm working through the Ankh issue with F# projects and automation).

swarer and I are working through instruction docs to give basic access. Once you get set up, it is easy to use. I really like the tool set. Of course, I'm becoming a VSTS TFS user as well.
