Setting up the default Client-Server Application on apache2 mod_mono

Let's say I'd like to run the default WebSharper Client-Server Application template in /var/www/ with modmono on Debian. What files should I copy there, and what should the modmono settings look like?

1.) As I see, the application has no aspx files, only dll-s, so how should I tell mod_mono what is my index page?

2.) How do I copy the files for deploy? Do I keep the following structure

bin/
  - MyClientServerApplication.dll
  - WebSharper.Core.dll
  - ...
Content/
  - ...
Scripts/
  - ...

or do I copy the contents of the bin folder to the parent directory? In any of the cases, what do I set for mod_mono as the application directory (MonoApplications field of apache config I think).

I have a Debian 8 (Jessie) with Apache2 and the latest mono.

You can just tell Apache to send all requests to mod_mono with the following line in your app's Apache .conf file:

SetHandler mono

There is also a change to do on Web.config because mod_mono doesn't support integrated pipeline mode, you need to add the following nodes:

(We should probably look into adding these to the project template, if they don't cause any problems in other environments.)

You can then just copy the files for deploy with the same folder stucture as they have in the project folder. You need Web.config, bin/, Content/, Scripts/, plus of course any data files you use (eg Main.html for the default Client-Server app).

For reference, I just ran the default Client-Server app on Docker with the following Dockerfile:
