Call for Trustees

I am looking for Trustees for The Hub. I'd like a group of five total, including myself as one of those five.

This group will be responsible for policy activities here.

I expect that the Trustee position will take about 2 hours to become involved and require an ongoing effort of 1 hour per month to read and respond on the Trustee forum.

Note that the Trustee position is for policymaking. The enforcement of policy will be executed by another group of admins, etc.

Topics on the initial agenda:

  1. Intellectual property license for The Hub. Is creative commons or another IP model useful? This is a community, and is owned collectively, with each person having IP rights for their own works.
  2. Terms of Use for the site. We need one.
  3. Privacy statement. We need one.

Other agenda items will be scope of the site, focus, other types of stuff, etc. I guarantee that the first month of topics will be mundane and mind-numbing, but after that, we'll be talking about matters that will be pertinent in the service of hubFS contributors and matters surrounding community in F#. The Hub is a service for community, so making certain that the site has proper guidance and direction is important. The goal is for hubFS contributors to be able to do any work that they see fit with little or no impedance and with maximum assistance from the site.

I guess we need one of those "mission statements, too" . . .

I would be available for this. I think the two IP licenses that would be most applicable here would be Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 or Creative Commons Attribution 2.5.

I am not sure what restrictions you want to put on derivative works

that is why I suggest ShareAlike as well as Attribution. I personally

favor Attribution of the two only because it's less retrictive and

since .Net is still largely a MSFT thing most shops implementing things

in .Net will probably shy away from any type of viral licensesing even

something as simple as ShareAlike. If you want my opinion on what

license I favor most out of all licenses then I would say the MIT license.

It is about the most liberal of all the open source licenses and

it gives proprietary works which include your work no hassles so wider

adoption is easier, especially by large corporations who are normally

open source gun shy. Those are my suggestions.

Excellent, I accept. With your background on open source and in maths (and that geometry stuff), you bring immediate skills to needs here.

I can probably find an hour a month. Does the whole hour have to come at one time? Or can it be two minutes a day? ;)
