Install - Interactive feature integration with VS 2005

Subject: Interactive feature integration with VS 2005 – *Not Working*

I installed using -> InstallFSharp-1.9.2.9.msi

(VS 2005 Pro and NET 2.0 were already installed on the system)

I fire up the VS Add-in and everything appears good, except whenever I press ALT-ENTER, I always get ->

Report:

System.NullReferenceExeption: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

At Microsoft.FSharp.Compiler.VSFSI.Connect.LMSendSelection()

At Microsoft.FSharp.Compiler.VSFSI.Connect.EnvDTE-DTCommandTarget-Exec( <list of parameters>)

In the VSInstallation.html file it mentions to look for the ‘package key’ in the Registry. That checks out OK.

I’ve screwed around for a couple hours trying to get this working – What am I missing here ?!?

I then un-installed the entire package and reinstalled using the ‘alternative-install-vs2005.bat’ and still no joy. ;(

In looking at what this .BAT file does, I noticed that it registers the same DLL (FsLangService.dll ) twice ?!? ->

regsvr32 /s bin/babelpackage.dll

regsvr32 /s bin/FsLangService.dll

regsvr32 /s bin/FsPrj.dll

regsvr32 /s bin/FsLangService.dll

Side notes:

In VSInstallation.html there is a link - ‘Using F# Interactive with Visual Studio’. The file it links to does <i>not<i> exist -> C:/Program Files/FSharp-1.9.2.9/manual/UsingInteractiveVS. There is also a ‘Compiler Installation’ link that goes “nowhere”. #2 -> In the ‘install.html’ under the “Troubleshooting installation of F# for Vision Studio” there is information -> “These must be set GLOBALLY, i.e. using 'My Computer'->'Advanced'->'Environment Variables', before you run FsVsPkgsInstaller.msi. “ FsVsPkgsInstaller.msi ??? Hi,

This is a bt of a mystery: clearly the installation hasn't worked correctly, because there are files missing. I suspect you are missing other files critical to running F# Interactive.

Can you run c:\Program Files\FSharp-1.9.2.9\bin\fsi.exe directly?

I guess you've uninstalled/re-installed. Could you send a recursive "dir /s" directory listing of all files under c:\Program Files\FSharp-1.9.2.9\bin\?

Don,

Definitely weird.

I greatly appreciate any assistance as this F# stuff looks pretty cool. ;-)

Executing c:\Program Files\FSharp-1.9.2.9\bin\fsi.exe does work.

FSI starts up and I see all off the “NOTE” lines,

just like I see from within VS2005 using the add-in.
