No, you shouldn't have to set anything.

So to be clear, when you type let xxx = 42 in a .fs file, you get no tooltip when hovering over 'xxx'? Is the "let" colored blue (syntax coloring active)?

It is colored blue.

Hm, did this just start out of the blue, or never work since you installed?

I am tempted to say uninstall and reinstall F# and see if that fixes it.

So I Have installed the latest release ver. 2, but the problem still persist.
Does anybody know how to solve it?
Thanks.

I had this problem with some of the previous releases - sometimes they (tooltips) came back after simply switching tabs or restarting VS.

Sometimes I had to uninstall/reboot/install F# and once I had to unistall VS2008 too.

Try uninstalling all F# versions (it's a big problem if you have multiple versions) and runtimes (if you have) then reboot, fire up VS, reboot again (just to be sure) and reinstall F#.

If this does not solve the problem then I guess you have to uninstall/reinstall all VS components (inclusive F#) - sorry.

Best regards,

Carsten

The issue is generated presumably after installation of Windows SDK.

The solution for the issue is described here:
[link:social.msdn.microsoft.com]

After solving the problem with intellisense in XAML, the problem with F# type tool tips was solved too.

I have only one version of F# installed.
And I have reinstalled VS2008 and F# too.
But the problem still persist.

Is anybody from Microsoft having an eye on the forum, or may be there is a kind of support for F# anywhere?

The quickest way to get support is to mail fsbugs@microsoft.com.

I believe there are a few MS folks that hang around here but if you want "official" (and I use that word very guardedly) Microsoft help, you may want to post something here:

MSDN Forums

There are no F# forums there.

See [link:msdn.microsoft.com] which points here for forums and to fsbugs for feedback.

You're right--my bad for making an assumption.

Is it just me or is it very strange that there are forums for research projects like Axum but none for the productized F# language? Certainly it would be a shame to fragment the community between this site and the MSDN forums, but it seems plausible to me that there are people who go to the MSDN forums looking for help on F#, find that there is no appropriate forum on which to ask their questions, and just give up.

Likewise, the fsbugs vs. Connect dichotomy also seems a bit odd (although I've always gotten much quicker feedback from fsbugs than from the teams using Connect, so I'm not eager to see this changed).
